How to write a Vinted description that sells
A good Vinted description says what the item is, the brand and size, the colour and material, the condition including any flaws, and a measurement or fit note. Keep it short, put the most important details first, and don't add hashtags for brands that aren't the item's.
The template
Copy this and fill it in:
[Brand] [item] in [colour], size [size].
✨ [One line on what's good about it: style, fit or occasion]
🏷️ Brand: [brand]
📏 Size: [size] (fits [true to size / small / large])
🎨 Colour: [colour]
🧵 Material: [from the care label]
✅ Condition: [condition], [any flaws, or "no marks or flaws"]
📦 Posted quickly and carefully. Happy to bundle.
A real example
Whistles dusky rose belted wrap coat, size M.
✨ Beautiful long wrap-style coat in a soft dusky rose
🏷️ Brand: Whistles
📏 Size: M
🎨 Colour: dusky rose
🪡 Notched collar, two large patch pockets and a matching tie belt
✅ Condition: very good, no visible marks or flaws
📦 Posted promptly and carefully packaged. Happy to bundle with other items for a discount!
This listing had a fair price range of £55–74. It does the job because a buyer can tell from the description alone what the coat is, whether it'll fit, and that there's nothing hidden.
What to include
- Brand, item and colour first. Buyers scan the first line. It also matches what they type into search.
- Size and fit. Say if it runs small or large. For trousers, jeans and dresses, add one measurement such as waist, inside leg or length.
- Material. Copy it from the care label. "100% wool" or "cotton" helps an item sell.
- Condition, honestly. Name any flaw, where it is, and photograph it. Vinted can refund buyers when an item is significantly not as described, so honesty protects you.
- One line of style. What it's good for, such as work, weddings or everyday wear. Keep it to one line.
What to leave out
- Hashtags for other brands. Vinted's guidelines say not to add unrelated brand names to your description. "#zara" on a non-Zara item can get your listing hidden.
- Long stories. Where you bought it and why you're selling doesn't help the sale.
- Anything you can't see in the photos. If it isn't true, it'll come back as a return.
Titles
Keep the title to the words a buyer would search for: brand, item, a key detail and size. For example: "Whistles dusky rose belted wrap coat, size M". Skip words like "stunning" and "must-have", because nobody searches for them.
Fill in Vinted's details too
The description isn't everything. Vinted's form also asks for category, brand, size, condition, colour and material. Pick the most specific category you can (for example Women › Coats › Wrap coats rather than just Women), because buyers filter by it. If the item has no brand, choose "No brand" instead of leaving it blank or guessing.
Questions
What should I write in a Vinted description?
The brand, item, colour and size first, then the material, the condition including any flaws, and a fit note or one measurement. Keep it short and honest.
Should I use hashtags on Vinted?
Only for words that genuinely describe the item. Vinted's guidelines say not to add unrelated brand names, and doing that can get a listing hidden.
How long should a Vinted description be?
Long enough to answer the questions a buyer would ask: usually 5–8 short lines. Put the important details first.
Can an app write my Vinted description?
Yes. Rackd reads the label from your photos and writes the title and description for you to paste into Vinted, along with a fair UK price.
